This is Linda and today I will share with you a quick way to create an embellishment using acrylic sheet. You need an embossing folder, diecut machine, and some alcohol ink.

Let’s start with stamping your image using staz-on ink as shown below (Colorful Companions stamp set)

Let the ink dry and hand cut the image. Run it through machine with your preferred embossing folder. Here is the result:

To color the embellishment, drop some alcohol ink into the grooves. You may add multiple colors by letting the base layer dry and start adding more color as you wish.

I used a combination of orange and watermelon ink to stamp flowers from the Bits and Pieces stamp set around my daughter’s soup thermos.

Next I used the Colourful Companions stamp set, combined with cool words from the Whatever set to decorate the lid of her sandwich container.  I stamped only the top half of one of the butterflies, and used lilac and ocean ink to stamp the “hip hip hooray” logo.

I then used the Border Lines stamp set and white ink to stamp on the lid of a little snack container. 

Lastly, a school lunch is not complete without juice, complete with a stamped banner that gives “hugz” to your little one at school.  I used Bits and Pieces & the Whatever stamp sets.

I decided to fill a couple of pages in my Summer 2011 art journal.  For the first page about our National Day celebrations,  I’ve used music score paper as my background but painted it first with gesso to dull the printing. I’ve used flowers from the Funky Flowers stamp set as fireworks, giving them a sprinkling of glitter to make them shine. I’ve also used the Mini Pennants for the bunting and the border stamp from the Border Lines set to frame the page.

For my second page I’ve transfered the music score paper onto watercolour paper using gel medium to make a subtle background. I cut out some rough circles to use as masks and sprayed inks over the page using dye inks. I’ve used the Friday Night Stencil alphabet for my title, emphasising it with the brackets from the oversized set.  I wanted to stamp the film strip from the Snapshot set at the bottom of the page and ended up dropping it. I could have covered it up by stamping it a second time onto paper, cutting it out and sticking it over the top but I actually liked the messy look it gave me, so I left it there. I finished off the page using the Graphic Borders stamp printed onto book page as a frame.

Here are a couple of gorgeous pages from Birgit and some explaination on how she did them.

For “the sky is the limit” I used Colorful Companions, Bottlecaps, Repeat
after me and Backgrounds. For the background I used Gesso and TA Glimmer
Chalkboard. I stamped with Stazon and colored in the little dots of the
bottelcap stamp with Letraset markers and then I put little punched out
paper circles on top. The stars where made using sequin waste.

For “Heaven” I used Colorful Companions, Abundant blossoms, Bottlecaps,
Backgrounds and He loves me. The background was made with acrylic paint. I
also used acrylic paint to stamp the butterflies and the flowers. I used
Stazon to stamp the bottlecap stamp and the little swirl from the He loves
me set. Again I colored in the little dots of the bottlecap stamp with
Letraset markers. The little circles and the words “heaven” where cut from
bookpaper. The angel wing is a rubon from Hambly.
The little white dots on both pages where made with the back of my brush
dipped in acrylic paint.

Every summer, when the thoughts of back-to-school begin, I am reminded of the days that I spend in the Kindergarten classroom in our elementary school.  You see, I am a substitute teacher, and the Kindergarten class is where I spend most of my time.  It’s a classroom filled with colour, smiles & tons of learning.  It may look like play…..but I know, for a fact, it’s ALL LEARNING!!!!

So……..I thought it would be fun to share a little Show & Tell with you today, KINDERGARTEN-style.  The amazing Kindergarten teacher (who happens to be one of my best friends) puts together an inspiring Show & Tell schedule that teaches the students about various elements in the curriculum — it’s pretty much brilliant.  So, today I want to share (with you; the rest of the class) what I brought for my “What is one thing you did this summer?” Show & Tell.

I created this layout totally inspired by the fun photos of my daughter on the trampoline with the water hose.  She loves to dance and bounce on the trampoline on hot summer days, spending hours drenching herself with the hose.  Here’s a close-up of some of the photos:

I stole her bathing suit after the event (and after it dried) and cut the trim from it.  The suit is actually quite see-through by now and she probably won’t be wearing it again…..well, not now anyway.   I layered the bathing suit trim on the side of the layout, machine stitching it on.

I used the Colour Companions mSB stamp set, stamping some butterfly images with white craft paint.  I love how girlie & playful it looks.

Hopefully this will inspire you to create a summer-packed layout this weekend, inspired by a Show & Tell from your memories of school.

Start with these simple supplies: 

Here are the steps:

1. Cut a piece of cardstock to fit the inside of your frame.  I cut mine to 5×7 inches.  Choose 3 different butterfly stamps from the Colourful Companions stamp set and stamp the images on the BACKSIDE of the cardstock (make sure it’s the back of your cardstock).  It doesn’t matter what colour of ink you use because it’s on the backside — just make sure you can’t see the butterflies through the cardstock.  Here are mine:

2.  Take your paper piercer & foam pad and punch tiny holes around each butterfly image, following the lines of your stamped images.

(You don’t need to punch any holes in the centre of the stamped image, but you can if you want more detail).  Don’t forget the tiny antennae.

3. This is what it will look like when you flip the cardstock over to the FRONTSIDE now:

4. Stamp a sentiment between the butterfly images to create your message.  I used the Lines of Life stamp set and used black dye ink.  Next, I stamped directly on my wooden frame, creating a whimsical effect using the swirl image from the Funky Flowers stamp set.  I stamped with two different ink colours this time. 

Here’s the final artwork………….easy enough for any 7 year-old cutie to create with her mom & her awesome stamps from myStampBOX.

I used a kraft base, white and red ink, white embossing powder and white gel pen. I did not hesitate to use my hand writing for journaling.

I must admit that I cheated a little bit by printing my pictures at home and also I had that butterfly stamped, embossed on vellum and cut out all ready to use. But I’m sure it’s possible to scrap while at vacation. Finally, it’s all about preserving your memories! So happy summer scrapping to you!

Stamps used: Abundant Blossoms, Colorful Companions, Royal Flush, Just Add Notes

So, let’s start…

These are the materials you need; white glossy cardstock, your favorite MyStampBox stamp set, black staz on ink, spray ink, and distress ink.

Stamp images on the glossy cardstock using staz on ink and let it dry for a minute. Or two…

Using white crayon, start coloring the area you want to protect from the ink that will be applied later. Any white crayon will do the trick. I got mine from my son’s school supply.

Start spraying the card using multiple color of ink you desire.

Here is the final product after I add the title and flower embellishments. As you can see, some of the area shaded with white crayon stay white and resist to the color of the ink. I hope you enjoy this simple tutorial and can’t wait to see your new creation.

A specimen shadow box! This is such a creative project, I love how it turned out.

And this is how Gladys did it:

Step 1: Gather all the supplies you need – a shadow box, colorful companions from my stamp box, pattern paper from Cosmo cricket togetherness, versafine black onxy ink and a cut out cork sheet

Step 2: Gather all your used pattern paper and start stamping with versafine black onxy ink. Oh see how beautiful that look!

Step 3: Cut the cork sheet and fix into the shadowbox

Step 4: Cut all the beautiful butterflies into shape

Step 5: Start to decorate using string pearl to line the box and add some numbering and adhere flowers  in the middle of the butterflies.

If anyone knows me…..they know I LOVE COLOUR!!!!!!  It’s everywhere in my home – I can’t get enough of it.   I love to decorate my home & create projects and layouts using neutral backgrounds mixed with bold colour combinations.  One of my favourite colour combinations is this one:

I am also totally inspired by home decor……in magazines, on blogs & websites and in my own house.  I love this room in particular:

So……. I decided to create a framed piece of artwork for my own bedroom……..inspired by both decor & colour.

I used mSB stamp sets (Tall Solids I & II) to create a bold, yet simple design.  I stamped using a light grey and red dye ink on plain white cardstock.  By stamping the letters “I LOVE U” in red, they send a message loud & clear.

Details like a stamped turquoise butterfly (Colour Companions), a bold “you” stamped in black ink (mini letters) & whimsical pink machine stitching bring the simple design to life.

I had fun creating this playful artwork.  I challenge you to mix a bold colour combination with inspiration from a room in your own home.

Here is one inspiration that I will use for our weekend hike pictures: I love Linda Abadie’s example layout of using several pictures. I often use only one or two larger pictures, but sometimes there are many good ones that need to be combined or there are none that stand out and deserve a larger size. Linda has used 5 pictures on her layout and printed them in two different sizes.

For most of us it was a challenge to work with these subtle hues, but the end products are all spectacular! Get inspired to leave your regular colour range and try out a new and different palette.

Marsha Valk stamped and embossed on felt with the “Abundant Blossoms” and used white gesso on plaster eggs. She finished the eggs with the solid shapes of the Abundant Blossoms set.

Allison Cope used the oval stamp from “Back to the Basics” for her egg shapes. The background is done with the checkered stamp from “Graphic Borders” and the sentiment comes from “Straightforward”.

Jolene Johnston’s Easter Card was stamped with the flower shape from “Oversized” onto the background. The sentiment is from “Mention It!”.

Birgit Koopsen created a pastel coloured travel diary. She used “Seal It” stamps and the bracket from “Just add Notes”.

Jaine Drake hid her Easter eggs in this sweet little birdhouse. It comes with a matching tag and is decorated with stamps from “Border Lines”.

Agata Pfister let little button rain drops come out of her rain cloud from “Wishing you Sunshine”. The sentiment is from “Mention It!”.

Rebecca Keppel made this Spring colour inspired layout of her daughter. She stamped the “Colourful Companions” Butterflies on white cardstock and used “Summer Alpha” letters for part of her title. *smile* comes from “Sigh, Gush, Gasp”.

Janet Zeppa created the eggs in this cute Easter basket with the oval shape in our “Back to the Basics” set.

Sue Sykes used “Colourful Companions” and “Mini Pennants” with her patterned paper. The sentiment comes from our popular “Straightforward” set.

Linda Abadie outlined the Colourful Companions butterflies on this card, coloured some of the spots in and used a sentiment from the “Itty Bittys” set.

Jill Hildebrand stamped “Floating Leaves” on green acrylic paint for this Passion Play layout and used “Lots of Dots” letters for part of her title.

We hope to get you to take out your pastels and try a new favourite colour combination.

I used the “Splash Me A Lot!” for my title with kraft cardstock, outline it with light blue gel pen and glue it on the layout. I used 7gypsies paper as the base of this layout. All butterflies are from”Colorful Companion” stamp set. Throughout the layout, I stamp all little flowers from “Tree for all Seasons” using silver ink and applied multiple colors as filler. I just LOVE this particular stamp set, it is so versatile and so much fun! For the trees, again I used the “Tree for all Seasons” set. To create the 3-D effect, I only glued the main part of the tree and let the branches flow freely.

From this angle, you can see the “shadow” of the trees. For this effect, I used black ink to stamp near the main green trees for shadowing. I did a lot of distressing, hand-doodling, and used bold colors. I tried to bring a bit of “Spring” feeling to the layout. I hope you enjoy my Show and Tell. Agata Pfister used stamps from the “Itty Bittys” set to create this clean and simple graphic pattern. The sentiment is from the same set.

Allison Cope used the X from “Rough Copy” to create  the pattern on the teal background. It’s a very subtle and beautiful effect. The outline houses from “No place like Home” are perfect for the house pattern on the white card stock. The sentiment comes from “Whatever!”.

Stephanie Ackermann used several sentiments from “Mention It!” to create this fun background for her Thank You card.

Eva Pizarro created a background from hexagons taken from the “Hive of Live” set. These stamps fit together perfectly, forming a dense pattern on the kraft paper.

Cari Locken used the flower stems and circles from the “Funky Flowers” set for this beautiful graphic pattern. The sentiment comes from the “Seal It!” stamp set.

Look at your stamps in a new way, you can use many of them for unique patterns and share your patterns with us, if you like!

The stamps I used in this layout are the colorful companions set and the Just Add Notes set.  I felt that the butterflies were perfect for this as they reminded me of the grace of dancers and the just add notes had the perfect date stamp to help me remember when I had this wonderful experience.  I also chose these colours for the layout to go with my costume but also to go along with the cold, dreary day and the ocean water.

This month I wanted to challenge myself to share something outside of the box (no pun intended!) for me!  I have the hardest time altering items.  I’m not certain why but I guess it’s because I thoroughly enjoy creating layouts and cards.

So I was browsing through my local scrapbook store and came across these little shadow boxes by Tim Holtz called “Configurations” and I knew it would be perfect to allow me to create something different… you know… to think “about the box” for once!

This little shadowbox measures about 8 3/4 x 6 3/4 all arranged inside their box.  There are 4 different sizes boxes that fit within the dimensions.  Perfect for little photos, trinkets or just some beautiful things like paper and blooms!

Here’s what I came up with… lots of greens, browns and blues!

Each mini box is decorated differently.  This little box has the word LOVE inside.  I used the “Funky Alphabet” stamp set for this.  I used some of our Preferred Partner, PK Glitz “bronze patina” embossing powder to get a distressed metallic look.

Inside the largest of all the mini boxes I stamped a little scene.  I used the bare tree from “Tree For All Seasons” and the grass from the “Funky Flowers” set.  I also added some delicate Flower Soft to the branches to look like Spring blossoms.

In the top right hand corner box, I first stamped the large daisy image from “Funky Flowers” and then I stamped an “I” from the “Royal Flush” alphabet set right over top of it in a different colour of embossing powder. “I” is the first letter of my married name.

In the bottom right hand corner, I stamped another little scene of some houses.  These sweet little houses and sentiment come from the “No Place Like Home” stamp set.  It fit perfectly in this little space in the corner.

In the center smallest square, I added an embossed butterfly from “Colorful Companions“.  Again I used the beautiful bronze patina embossing powder from PK Glitz.

We have some AMAZING new stamps coming out for CHA this year and I just happen to sneak one of them on my project today!  We have a gorgeous background stamp set coming out and I managed to sneak it on to my project but you’ll just have to wait to see what that stamp set is all about SOON!

The beautifully ornate piece of heart chipboard is also from another one of our Preferred Partners here at myStamp BOX.  It’s made by Magistical Memories and it’s called “Heart Swirl“.  I stamped on it, inked it and also added some of the bronze patina embossing powder to unify it with the rest of my shadow box elements.  I adhered my altered chipboard piece using some of Helmar’s “3D Scrap Dots” adhesive.  Works great for popping things off of your surfaces!

I did not have a lot of time so I decided to limit the decorating to two colours and black and started stamping. Before I folded the box, I stamped butterflies from the “Colourful Companions” set all over the box (left out the underside), then folded it up and placed wax paper inside so that the cookies would not leave grease marks on the cardboard.

For the decoration I stamped butterflies with blue ink on blue paper and with pink ink on pink paper and cut the butterflies out. They were fastened to the box with pop dots. A small tag with ribbon and butterfly was added and finally I closed the box with a gingham ribbon and added two other gingham bits to add more colour around the knot.

One of the butterflies was stamped twice and the top butterfly was folded and glued onto the lower one to make it look like it was about to take off.

A simple and easy gift box that can hold a multitude of different gifts including food, or even your cards or ATCs! I hope you enjoyed this little idea. If you make one yourself, remember to share your box creations with us!
