This week it was my friend Cheryl’s birthday, and I know enough about her decorating style to take a chance on a home décor gift for her living room. I know that she has been interested in pulling together collections of artwork with mainly black and white with pops of color, so I thought that this canvas would make her happy. She also loves images of trees, so this gift was ideal!
I was inspired by the clean design and decided to craft a birthday card to match. Here’s what I made.
I stamped the tree from Tree For All Seasons in black on white cardstock to achieve the same stark effect as the canvas. I added the simple aqua bird from the same set to mimick the canvas as well. The Happy Birthday sentiment comes from the Everyday Lines set of stamps which is perfect for cardmaking. The sentiment “grounded” the tree quite literally in this case. I put the entire panel on a purple card base which is Cheryl’s favorite color. Sometimes knowing your friends and what they like is half the fun of making handmade projects. While this simple design is not my typical style, I really enjoy stretching my creative limits to create new projects.
