Using Stamps To Create Backgrounds

Hello Everyone! Can you believe that February is already almost over?! This year is just flying by … it seems like it was just yesterday that Winter CHA was happening down in Anaheim, CA and manufacturers were unveiling their new products and collections for 2014!

Speaking of new products and collections … did anyone else notice that bold, messy prints and black script fonts are very much “in style” this season? I did, and I used that trend as inspiration for the card I’m sharing with you today.

For this card, I used the Mini Pennants stamp set and the Enjoy Your Latte! stamp set. I began by stamping the triangle pennants onto my card base using coral and sea foam inks. My stamping job was intentionally imperfect – I wanted some smudges and mess to add to the artsy vibe I was hoping to create.

Once I was satisfied with my background, I had to find a home for my sentiment. Because the background was so busy, I knew the sentiment had to be clearly defined or it would get lost in the colors and patterns of the base. I decided to use the coffee ring stamp from the Enjoy Your Latte! set as a frame for the sentiment. I stamped it onto white cardstock using black Staz-On ink, then cut it out and adhered it to the card base with 3D foam dots. I used black Thickers to spell out a simple “hi” and my card was done.

I hope this card has inspired you to pull out your stamps and use them to create a background! The triangle pennants worked great, but you could easily create a similar card using any of the myStamp Box background stamps . If you’ve used your stamps to create a bold background, be sure to share a link below to your project!
