Scandinavian inspiration

As soon as I saw these new Ornamental Flowers stamps they instantly made me think of Scandinavian folk art patterns.  A quick search through Pinterest (is there ever a quick search on there?)  came up with lots of gorgeous patterns, most of them red on white backgrounds and very simple designs.

I thought I might have a go at creating my own on a fabric heart by Canvas Corp.

I stamped the design in a block pattern in red ink and drew free hand borders around the images.  Some of the images I stamped off the fabric to make it look as though I’d cut the heart from a much bigger piece of fabric.

Canvas Corp canvas shapes are double layered so it was easy to open a small hole in the side and push in some wadding.  I went around the whole heart on the sewing machine with a red thread to close it up again.

A few buttons and some red ribbon later and it was finished.
