Wonders of Recycling

I love to collect and reuse. Sometimes I am taking it to an extreme. For example when I am not throwing out the tiniest bits of coloured card stock and paper, because I am planning to make paper from it (more on that project in another post). I came across my tiny paper scraps stash a few days ago and got inspired to reuse some of the bits on my layouts. Here is what I did:

I arranged the paper bits on the card stock and fixed them with small glue dots. Then I sewed them onto the card stock for a unified look. Then I distressed the edges of the white sheet. The stamp sets I chose for my layout were “Lots of Dots” and “Just add Notes” and I stamped them on white and yellow scraps to spell out the title and for the date.

Now I printed a few pictures of Caspar scattering dandelion seeds and printed them onto white card stock. I used an old and almost dead toner cartridge for this (it even has a line running down the page). The resulting print looks very similar to a transfer, but with much less work involved. I kept the cartridge for projects like these, I will only recycle it once it is truly empty :)

The background for the page is a green sheet that I cut out in the middle to save card stock for one card (ok, I don’t do this all the time, but once I was on my quest, there was no stopping me). I tore the edges off for a more rustic look.

Voilà, now it just needed to be assembled. The title spells “Pusteblume” (blowflower), which is the German word for dandelion seed head.

Good use of scraps Bettina.. you an also make little squares.. I forget their name, where you lay down all your scrap papers onto a background, all overlapped, then stamp your images all over and then cut into little squares, like 1×1 or 2×2, and then you can sue those as decorative elements.. or to highlight a title, or add photo’s onto them.. argh, driving me crazy can’t remember what they are called.. ANYONE? Hmmm.. maybe I’ll do some this week and share on my next blog day =)

Very cool Bettina! For me, I keep the clear acetate pieces that all my mSB stamps come on and use them for clear windows or for shaker cards. I also save packaging for mini paint trays: ie: brad containers.

Now that is one of the best tips I have ever seen – I never thought of keeping the toner cartridge for these kinda projects – guess what I will do next :)

    Fabulous ideas
